A free app for Android that allows users to watch some very entertaining movies and TV shows that come out of Bollywood

An Overview Of SonLIV

While Bollywood might not be nearly as popular as Hollywood and western entertainment, at least to westerners, there is a very strong cult following of people who simply cannot get enough of Bollywood's creations, thanks to the Internet and the fact that it's so easy to watch. The Android app SonyLIV makes it even easier to watch all of your favorite Bollywood hits, and it's all free.

Despite the way the name sounds, SonyLIV isn't at all affiliated with the Sony Corporation. This was an app developed by Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd. It's available for free for Android mobile devices and even has support for Chromecast. It's currently on version 4.7.5, so it frequently updates to work out the bugs.

One great thing about this app that caters to a largely Indian market is that it goes well beyond the latest from Bollywood. You can also use it to watch a wide range of TV shows, movies, and even live sports, not just cricket or soccer.

What SonyLIV Is and What It Does

The full name of this app is SonyLIVE: TV Shows, Movies, Sports. As the name would suggest, you get a whole lot of options when you download and install this app on Android. Most of the selection you're going to get covers a ton of stuff from Bollywood, though you can also easily flip the channels around and find some sports and more.

Because of the fact that this app is compatible with Chromecast, you can broadcast the signal straight to your big-screen TV, so you can have viewing parties for live sports, or just stop straining your eyes while taking in that Bollywood action.

However, because this is an Indian market, if the movie's native language is Hindi (or any non-English language), you're likely not going to get any subtitles with it. Luckily, there are tons of movies and shows that are dubbed over in English.

Features of SonyLIV

One feature that's really strong with SonyLIV is that it works pretty much like a paid TV streaming service. Although finding an actual guide to show you what's going to be airing is hit or miss, you can still browse through a lot of channels, just like if you had PS Vue or Hulu Live. The only difference, of course, is that this is an Indian market, not a western market, so the bulk of the content you'll find is Indian-based.

Another cool feature is that there's also a small selection of American-based Hollywood hits. These channels were thrown in because there are a lot of people in India who want to check out Hollywood, not just Americans wanting to watch Bollywood. So the respect here is mutual, and you can definitely find a little bit of western media.

Those are pretty much all of the features that you're going to get with this little app. At the end of the day, it's simply an app that allows you to watch some free TV, movies and sports, most of which are based out of India.
